Both cars are running up against eachother in the used market in terms of price and mileage. Both are aimed at enthusiats. So which one do you want?
The ST would get better MPG and has room for all your friends + junk, but's isn't anywhere near as quick. That 400HP coyote exhaust note comes with considerably less practicality. Choices and consequences. Which one do you pick?

I had the same 2 up against each other when I was in the market. Ended up with a 5.0 because 'Murica. Figured if I buy my first American car, I got to do it properly and get a V8 RWD muscle car.
No regrets.

Not even a question for me, mustang all the way. Put a trailer hitch on if you need to move a lot of stuff.

Id go with the Mustang, but if it were a Fiesta ST, id choose the ST.

Depends....
I have an ST now but considered a V6 because 'Murica, pony car and budget.
If it's 2015 Mustang 5.0 then I choose that. But if it's '14 or older I go with the ST.
It all depends on your needs/wants and requirements.

ST all the way. Sure the Mustang would be nice from time to time but the ST is great all the time. Practicality and cost wins for me every time.

What makes the ST fun?
Torque.
What does the Mustang have way more of?
Torque.
There are plenty of valid reasons to buy the ST though. Make a pros/cons list and weigh each one according to your priorities.

I'd only have the money for one of these vehicles, and it would have to be all things for me at all times, during all season.
The choice is obvious. Focus ST.

Personally, I'm more of an ST guy than a Mustang guy, but the GT is a truly incredible performance bargain. If those were my only two choices, I'd probably have to go with THE POWA and RWD. Honestly doubt if I'll ever own a Mustang, though...

It's funny, I always wanted a Mustang but went with the Focus because it was a little more practical for my driving and activities.
That being said, if I move somewhere warm I'm getting me a Mustang.

I noticed this yesterday! Punched in 2011 Mustang just for fun, on craigslist and I was pleasantly surprised by the prices I was greeted with.

the 5.0 that coyote v8 is fantastic the car itself is still somewhat practical with a large boot and it's true American muscle.

Hm. This is a tough one. I think in the end I'd go Mustang because I'd like to own a high HP car.

I've considered the same, except V6 Mustang since the pricing is almost identical (new). It's a nice conundrum to be in, no? If you need the practicality of a usable back seat, go ST, if not then 'Murica and 5.0.

If I didn't have an almost 1.5 year old I'd say the Mustang in a hear beat.
I've owned a 2 door blazer though, and I have no interest in going back to 2 doors for a daily driver.
Love, love, love the Mustang, need, need, need, the practicality of 4 doors in my current stage in life.

So you want ford to make a Mustang Grand Coupe? Or put the 5.0 somewhere inside the Focus?

Either would work lol. I'd really rather they sell the Falcon here. Then I can get the best of both worlds!

Mustang! I don't need four doors and don't particularly care about mileage since my commute is short. I also owned a 2005 GT and would like to sample one with 100 more horsepower.

Ugh, I hate these comparisons.
It's such an easy answer: do you need space, practicality, and good gas mileage? If yes buy the ST. If no buy the Mustang.

"Pffft, I don't need practicality" Is what I said to my self when I brought my first Firebird, 'til I discovered I actually did want to haul stuff and people around in my car. Also, don't try to load a transmission into the back seat of a two door car by hand. That shit is for the fuckin' birds.

Unless you need the space and can't pay for gas, with out a doubt the 5.0.

Idk if the torque comparison is so black and white. Look at the curves, early in the powerband the ST might have an advantage. Just a thought.

Pretty much the same thing happened to me. Bought a Kia Koup because I thought it'd be plenty, then one day I tried to put a big box in the car.

I'm about as qualified as they come on this one. I literally had the car on the right. Well maybe not that exact one, but I had a 2011 5.0 California Special. And I'm buying an ST in the morning!
The Mustang is incredible, probably the best car I've ever owned and I've had dozens. I traded it for a Range Rover Sport because it was my Wife's (then GF's) dream car and she traded her SUV in as well.
So fast forward to now, and in my car buying mind it came down to utility, I will own a new (2015+) Mustang over the next 5 years but for me, right now, with 3 kids (10, 7, 5 weeks) I have to have a useable back seat. Plus I drove an hour each way to work so it's a pretty easy decision.
Regardless, you can't go wrong with eitehr.

ST, then do the COBB tuning kit (s1 or s2) with the stage 2 (i'm assuming) you'd have to be getting close (+/-) to the 300 h.p. mark.

ST because simple tune adds a fair gain in power, ford performance parts are also available that don't void your warranty, and while the 5.0 probably has those too..... for me torque steer is intoxicating

I feel the Focus is too, well, Focused. I want something happier and that is more of a laugh. Like if it was at a Fiesta.

that made me laugh hahahah. have you ever driven the focus though? while it is very 'duty specific' or 'focused', it is kinda ridiculous and i feel the mustang blood. i'm sure they could have made it faster or less flamboyantly styled, but when you step on the pedal she screams and pulls the steering wheel to whatever side she feels like that day.

I know, I know. Well, I don't actually, I have never driven it. But Ive read enough about cars to kind of know how they feel, though in real life I just know its a whole different experience. I just like the size of the Fiesta more and the funniness of its smile and of the tiny MFT.
